Thinking back to my years at Harand, my proudest moment was performing in Hans Christian Andersen. I
had the lead in "The Emperor's New Clothes," and I recall walking out on stage in nothing more than a bathing suit! ("To a fool, it is absolutely invisible!") I also remember performing my first original songs in the
talent shows. I now have my own business running automated telephone services, and I still write music. Check out my original songs at www.myspace.com/philmoreproductions

heyy haranders:
even though I have gone away
the memories of camp are here to stay
i will always remember being in brig 1
because we had by far the most fun
goofing off and singing songs from fame
and staring in our great play mame
I will always remember those great summer nights
though in the end we had a couple of fights
from painting the mural to singing on stage
we have seemed to mature with age
I cannot wait until next year
to see all the friends that i hold so dear
I luv all you crazy brig 1 girls
just remember:

My 2 year old son, Mylo, and I sing Bushel and a Peck every night before bed. While we sing I reflect upon dancing around in leg warmers in the dance studio to Judy's choreography. I wish I could go back! Thanks for all the
wonderful memories.

It's been so long since being a camper in the mid-'60s and a then a JC. Carosel, Fiorello, Cinderella, Oklahoma, WOW!! Harand, I still love and miss you. Sulie, Uncle Byron, and everyone I sang, danced and played with,

My downstairs neighbor had a CD of "Once Upon A Mattress", and it started a
flood of memories... It's terrific to see recent pictures - So good to see Errol, so weird to see Todd London [the last time I saw him he was under 4' tall!!!] I'm so happy to know this place is still going - a force for good in the world! Yea! I'm in NYC, still doing a little theatre - and acupuncture!
Life is good - I hope you all are thriving.

I don't know what possessed me to "stop by," but I think about the camp, the Harand family (especially Pearl) and all it's meant in my life and the lives of my daughters and came to visit. I've sent others to this magical place that Cheryl Ross Mitchell accurately describes as Brigadoon and know it lives forever in my heart and soul. I hope you will be there for my grandchildren to experience your magic and love. Thank you for all you've done, for all you've been to so many and for all you do. I attended Sulie Harand, in Evanston, as a very young girl, back in the late 1950's.
Such fond memories! I remember learning to sing "Getting to Know You", from "The King and I", "Happy Talk", from "South Pacific", diaphragm exercises, dancing... Recently, I mentioned my experience to a friend, and looked you up. I am so glad to know that you are still giving wonderful training- and fond memories- to other children. I send you all good luck and best wishes.

Hi everyone,
How to start?
Well, I awoke at 7am following an extremely vivid dream that incorporated a time some ten and a half years ago, when I was with you guys for two seasons in Beaver Dam. I knew at the time how special those times were, and throughout the last decade there have certainly been many moments when I have drawn on the experience, sucked it all up once more, and moved forward on this journey we all take. I don't particularly know what sparked me this morning to type this email, but somehow it felt the right thing to do, to let you know that I still think of you all, and am obviously forever grateful for the opportunity you gave me. Life moves on for us all, and now married, deep into career mode and with some great kids of my own, it would undoubtedly be hard to do a season again. Perhaps one day, I'll pass by, but at least I know you'll always be with me. I trust and hope that you are all taking great care of yourselves.
Love and best wishes.

Hi there everyone, wow it's been a long time since I left a message here! Was just sorting through my cupboard and got very distracted by my camp photo albums and am now lost in the memoires of great times and people that i love and miss! I hope the new year finds you all happy and healthy and where you want to be. I'm doing great, very happily teaching 4 to 5 year olds in london and have been with a very wonderful man for almost a year now. I still often think about 'my girls' - you know who you are and I feel incredibly old realising that you are now all in college and driving and genreally being women as opposed to 'my girls'!!! Love and hugs to all, if you get a chance it would be great to hear how you're all doing!

Hey everyone!
I'm pretty sure I can count the amount of people that remember me fromcamp on one hand (I attended Harand in Beaver Dam from 1996-2001)... BUT∑ Ijust wanted to stop by and tell everyone that I worked on the film Dreamgirls and think you all would really enjoy it! It‚s a wonderful slightly modernized adaptation on the stage musical for film and it is so much fun! It was a great experience to be a part of both in the Costume Department and on set (I play an American Bandstand Dancer in the scene Cadillac Car). It‚s funny that when I attended Harand I costumed shows and performed and now I‚m getting paid to do it! : ) Who knows if I would be where I am without the experiences I had at camp!
p.s. If you are a camp Alumni I have a myspace group at the URL above so check us out! Plus a few photos of me on Dreamgirls.

For any of you charitable Haranders. two years ago a christmas fire burned down my parents beautiful home. well, all my yearbooks, Harandagrams, and pictures were lost. All I have is this awesome website. I attended camp for 5 years(84-89)starting in "New Frontier" and finishing in "Rodeo." Any kind souls can mail me anything to 1900 W. Warner chicago, IL 60613.
i'd leave my email, but it is totally spammed out. I loved every part of Harand, especielly free time, and the dances.just writing about it now is triggering all kinds of cool memories.

I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to work with the Harand Family. I am a musician and teacher in New York. The music education I received for 12 summers as an Accompanist under Sulie and Pearl will always be treasured. The Pageants were my favorite as they were each unique and so well written. Where else can children today learn the many beautiful timeless classics of Gershwin and Berlin? Thanks.

Hey everybody! It's been a while since I've signed this thang. Just wanted to say that after seeing West Side Story this past summer, I realized just how much I really missed camp! It was so weird that it wasn't at Beaver Dam, but Carthage is a really nice new home for Harand. :)

Not many people can say that their favorite child hood place is still the same way it was when they found it but I can. It’s called Harand Camp. It is owned by my family and was started in the 1950s. It is a place some call a home away from home but for me it is home. It’s a place where you can walk the grounds to your next class alone and not really be alone. Its always summer and the skies are always blue. The waves of Lake Michigan are never too dangerous and the heat never too much to handle. Where everyone is an equal and no man stands alone.
When June first hits, all you can think of is June 19th. The day when the buses arrive and the campers come spilling out like the sand of a broken hourglass. Everyone is hugging and moving on to find the next person that they have been waiting all year to see. Then they gather in the theater and it starts. The curtain goes up and the counselors run on stage to do the welcome song. Its always corny and we all laugh at them but we all know we couldn’t wait for this moment. Afterwards it’s a dash to the dorm to get the best bed in your room. You’ll see who you’ll be spending the summer with, living in a room built for two that for 6 weeks will hold 4 or maybe 5 people. They will become your best friends, your brother or your sisters and will always be by your side.
You live in the moment. That’s what camp’s about. You get to the cafeteria and all you see are the 200 kids fighting for the front of the line to get their food. You find your cabin, sit down and laugh it up for those forty-five minutes, but when it ends it seems like 5. You don’t care because now its rest hour and you get to spend it with your girl, the one person who you could be with for years or just a few days. At camp you never know.
You might ask why I haven’t said anything about how camp looks or what it smells like. Well, that’s because camp has been in three places and it’s not about where it is but about the spirit of Harand. This place means so many different things for so many different people. For me it’s about being around the people who love me the most to spend those countless hours talking or just lying around doing nothing. It’s about having a reason to be alive and live life with purpose and endless meaning. It’s knowing that you aren’t alone and finally, finally your home and nothing else matters.
